Black Girls Code Breaks Down Barriers

How can you enter a new world if you don’t speak the language? For many Black women and people of color, we grew up not knowing a language that would have provided us with the means to explore a new career path or enter into the rooms of opportunity. Black Girls Code is determined to change that.

Through their robust education and training, Black Girls Code provides young Black women and gender non-conforming youth with the opportunity to learn computer programming, enter into careers in tech, and/or realize their dreams and career potential.

Since 2011, Black Girls Code has partnered with schools, local organizations, and dedicated volunteers to offer in-person and virtual learning opportunities for girls and women of color aged 7-25.

Making an Impact

We’re enamored with the way Black Girls Code’s new CEO, Cristina Jones, is leading the organization to partner with industry leaders like IBM, Service Now, L’Oreal, Nextera, and Verizon,  generating a thriving ecosystem of innovation and learning. With product design courses led by Nike, workshops crafted with Epic Games, and the Build a Beat Challenge alongside Infosys and GoldieBlox, they are proving that the horizon for black and brown girls is infinite.

If you’re passionate about helping young Black girls and gender non-conforming youth of color, realize their importance as innovators and creators or powering their potential, we ask that you consider adding Black Girls Code to your Joy-Based Giving Strategy.  They’re worth the investment.

By building an intentional giving strategy, you’re focusing your investment on a growing business need. We know that there is a huge need for skilled workers in tech but there is a substantial lack of diversity. At Black Girls Code, they’re solving business imperatives by providing young women with the tools, resources, and connections necessary to launch careers in tech and fill a huge gap that exists in STEM careers for young women and people of color.

Get Involved

Black Girls Code connects youth to careers in STEAM through education, community, and workforce development. Bring a youth in your life to one of their regional workshops or programs.  Most importantly, invest in a future where diverse minds, skills, and experiences come together to create new opportunities in tech.
